Expect The Best From Gov Abiodun, Ogun NUJ Chairman Assures Residents
The people of Ogun state have been urged to be patient with the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
Making this plea at the Gala Night of Federated Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun state Council, held recently, Comrade Soji Samson Amosu, who is the Chairman of the Union said he was optimistic that the governor was going to deliver the goods to the people of the state.
The number one Journalist in the state said even though he was not part of Governor Abiodun’s cabinet, he deduced the Governor, as a prodigious person, meant well for the state and her people, having repeatedly declared, and made efforts measured to be genuine and people-oriented.
Amosu said, aside from his many statements which were pointing to that direction, the Governor has also taken some steps that speak volume of some form of re-engineering of sort and re-activation of collective spirit with his “building our future together” theme.
The Union leader stressed the Governor has started laudably with the abolition of tuition fee in schools; introduction of Tech- Hub as a way to boost ICT; provision of vehicles, motorcycles, as well as equipment for the security agencies; improvement in health services, palliatives on the roads throughout the length and breadth of the state.
Amosu was of the opinion that the Prince Abiodun led government might have done better, but for the court cases, saying now that the cases were over with his victory at the Supreme Court, the people should expect the best from the Governor.
On the issue of hate speech bill, Amosu, like a doyen of Journalism and former Governor of Ogun state, Chief Olusegun Osoba, he kicked against it because he believed it would be used against genuine members of his union instead of the perpetrators of hate speech.
Amosu disclosed that the union has embarked on training and retraining of members of the union, and so absorbed them of any blame arising from hate speech. “It is unfortunate, with the advent of smart phones, cameras, venturesomely, everybody is a photographer and Journalist and post anything online, but whenever anything goes wrong, the Journalists are quickly blamed”, he lamented.
The leader of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council promised that their members would work in partnership with the Abiodun led government in Ogun state by giving publicity blitz to its laudable achievements.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Adeniyi Adeloye stated that the Chapel had organized the event to celebrate themselves, thank God for the lives of its members, reward their patrons and also solicit continued patronage.
He said Journalists were not enemies of the state but indispensable friends, because the wellbeing of the state would always rub on the practice of Journalism.
The Royal father of the day, Oba Kolawole Aremu Sowemimo, Olu of Owode poured encomiums on Journalists in the state, but warned against sensationalism, because according to him, the people believe in them.
He also warned against killing their business themselves through radio review of their newspapers and magazine. He opined when indepth reviews are done, nobody would be interested in buying the hard copies again.
The event was flawlessly packaged with a number of people they described as friends of the chapel honoured with various awards.
