Dangote refinery keeps marketers guessing on commercial terms

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery keeps dealers, marketers, transporters, and owners of retail outlets guessing over the awaited commercial terms of its products.

The apprehension is coming three weeks after the 650,000 barrels per day refinery announced its commencement of operation.

Although the refinery has announced to the associations that their members will distribute its products, the stakeholders are eager to see the price list, allocated volume, and schedule.

Speaking with The Nation on the phone on Thursday, February 1, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), national president, Abubakar Maigandi, said the association is still looking forward to knowing information concerning the loading of the products.

He noted that the latest information the association has on the refinery is the enlistment of IPMAN members among those to distribute the products.

The Nation had reported that the association requested for allocation of the products for onward distribution to end users.

According to him, the next information IPMAN is expecting is on the quantity and price.

His words: “We are still waiting for his response on loading. Up till now, we have not heard anything yet concerning loading.

“The last thing is including us among those who will distribute products for them. That was the last we heard from them. Now we are waiting for when he is going to start and which quantity he is going to give us and the price too.

“The response to the letter we wrote to him was including us among the distributors. What remains now is the price and time for loading.”

Similarly, speaking with The Nation on the phone, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association (PETROAN), Mr. Billy Harry, also confirmed the waiting game.

He said members of his association are expecting further information from the refinery.

According to him, the plant is yet to make public its commercial terms to the association.

The PETROAN President said: “He (Dangote Refinery) has not released anything. And I don’t think anybody has any information on the commercial terms.

“Nobody has any commercial terms offered yet. We are expecting it. There is no scarcity of petrol now. “We are doing exactly how the provisions are made and so far there is nothing strange yet.”

Meanwhile, The Nation learnt from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) on Thursday, February 1, that its management, especially the technical team been holding marathon meetings with the Dangote Refinery of late.

The source said the meetings have been mostly on the quality test of the product.
