Oloroogun Sonny Kuku’s Installation Ushers in a New Epoch for Ogun

In a momentous ceremony at the Ojude Pavilion, Oloroogun Sonny Kuku assumed the esteemed position of the 3rd Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, marking not only his 80th birthday but also a pivotal chapter for the cultural and developmental narrative of Ijebuland and Ogun State.

Kuku, distinguished as the Co-founder of EKO Hospital and Pro-Chancellor of the University of Benin, succeeded his late uncle, Bayo Kuku, solidifying his role as a key influencer in the region. The event saw the convergence of notable figures, including Engr Noimot Salako Oyedele, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, representing the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and former governors of Ogun State, including Olusegun Osoba, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel, alongside distinguished traditional rulers, emphasized the significance of Kuku’s new role.

The gathering further included Ambassador Segun Akinsanya, Chief Taiwo Adeniji, Senior Director with African Finance Corporation, the Bobaseye of Ijebu, Osi Balogun of Ijebu, Chief Gboyega Adeshoye, Prof Toyin Ashiru, Pro-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Engr. Kayode Shote, Otunba Adesanya Yusuf (Dr.), Bobaseilu of Ijebu, Chairman, Ijebu Congress, Prince Bunmi Mebude, Engr, Olusegun A.T Mafe, Chairman, Ijebu Professional Excellence Foundation, the King College Old boys, Regberegbes, market men and women, students, and many others, illustrating the broad spectrum of support for Kuku’s new role.

The Awujale, in his profound speech, emphasized the merit-based selection of Kuku, highlighting his unwavering loyalty to the throne and his proven leadership capabilities. He encouraged Kuku to utilize his global networks to uplift the socio-economic development of Ijebuland and Ogun State. The Awujale’s words resonated with wisdom, setting the tone for Kuku’s impactful tenure.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Deputy Governor Engr Noimot Salako Oyedele, commended Kuku’s outstanding achievements in medicine and business. He acknowledged Kuku’s love and commitment to the development of Ijebuland, stating, “Your accomplishments, coupled with your dedication to Ijebuland, make you more than deserving of this title.” Governor Abiodun urged Kuku to leverage his position to foster unity, economic development, and educational advancement in Ijebuland. This aligns with the governor’s commitment to collaborative efforts with traditional rulers for the prosperity of the state.

Dr. Chief Fassy Yusuf, the Bagbimo of Ijebu, in his statement, echoed the sentiment of the community, expressing support and encouragement for Kuku’s new role. He emphasized the importance of cooperation and collaboration to achieve success in Kuku’s newfound position.

Expressing gratitude for the honor, the newly installed Ogbeni Oja pledged to redouble his commitment to Ijebuland’s development. He expressed, “I am highly elated with this honor, and I am grateful to Awujale for considering me for this highly exalted office of Ogbeni Oja.”

As Kuku assumes his role, the expectations are high for his contributions to the continued growth and development of Ijebuland and Ogun State. This installation marks a new era, symbolizing the potential for positive change and progress under Oloroogun Sonny Kuku’s leadership.
