PDP BOT ready to adopt Sheriff’s conditions for reconciliation •Directs Makarfi-led C’ttee to hold convention in Abuja

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, has demonstrated willingness to adopt part of the embattled national chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff’s conditions for reconciliation.

It has directed the Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee to hold the next national convention of the party in Abuja.

The BoT, in a communiqué read by its national chairman, Sen. Walid Jubrin, yesterday in Abuja shortly after its session that spanned about four hours, also directed that a new convention planning committee should be constituted by the caretaker committee. The planning committee, BoT said should be approved by the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC.

It would be recalled that the planning committee of the botched convention of the party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was headed by Nyesom Wike.
Sheriff has given as part of the conditions for reconciliation, the removal of Governor Wike as head of the convention planning committee.

He also demanded that the convention should be shifted from Port Harcourt to Abuja. The BoT communiqué read in part: “The next convention should be held in Abuja.

“To ensure a credible, transparent, free and fair convention, a new convention planning committee should be constituted by the National Caretaker Committee and approved by NEC.”

Walid added that the BoT should facilitate the raising of adequate funds for the party, even as he urged the reconciliation committee, headed by Prof. Jerry Gana, to continue with all efforts aimed at reconciling aggrieved members.

Passing a vote of confidence on the national caretaker committee, the BoT charged the committee to, as soon as possible, convene the NEC meeting of the party to accordingly approve proposals for moving the party forward.
