Kogi Jailbreak: 6 Rearrested, Gov Bello Orders Probe

At least, six out of the thirteen escapee inmates reported to be on the run from Koton Karfe prison, in Kogi State have been recaptured.

The Controller-General of Prisons, Mr. Ja’afaru Ahmed, officially confirmed the re- arrest when he led a team on an on-the-spot assessment of the facility in Koton Karfe.

Ahmed, who acknowledged that 13 prisoners compromising 10 pre-trial detainees and 3 convicts had escaped from Koton Karfe prison in the early hours of Saturday, 30th July, 2016, said the re-arrested 6 pre-trial detainees were recaptured with the assistance of other security agencies, local vigilante groups and well-meaning among others and have since been returned to the prison.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has appealed to the federal government to set up commission of inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the jail break.

The governor who expressed shock over the incessant incidents, said this particular attack in early hours of Saturday seemed to be a conspiracy between the insiders and those who came to free the inmates.

It brings to three the number of jailbreaks recorded in Kotokarfe Federal Prisons.The first was in 2013, the second in 2014 and now, July 30, 2016.
