ABIOLA IS THE FATHER OF DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA… Paseda

Late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola has been described as father and pillar of democracy in Nigeria, whose sacrifice for the annulment of June 12 presidential election restored sanity into the political system of the country.

Otunba Rotimi Paseda gave this commendation on Tuesday during a visit to the family of the late business mogul in Abeokuta to commemorate the June 12 anniversary.

Paseda, the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) governorship candidate in the last elections stressed that, Chief MKO Abiola became the choice of the people as a result of his struggle to better the lives of the common man.

He said, as a young politician, Abiola was a school of thought for him to emulate; his philanthropical initiative and doggedness to salvage the suffering of the masses was unparalleled.

He however enjoined well meaning Nigerians and academia to support the family in maintaining the legacies of the late politician by documenting the political and philanthropic history of the foremost business man.

“We can safely say that, Chief MKO Abiola was the father of democracy in Nigeria just like Abraham Lincoln was in USA. Abiola was a philanthropist nobody can match; his kind-hearted record was uncommon . I believe by now, MKO would be in heaven, considering his contribution to mankind.

“We need to acknowledge the impact of this great politician whose sacrifice alone strengthened the nation’s democratic process. People like us that are still coming, definitely will imbibe the corporate social responsibility of giving back to the society”.

“Therefore, the family should embark on the collection of his gestures and write a factual memoir on the political and philanthropical sojourn of our father. We must leave his history intact”, Paseda declared.

While responding, the family head of late Abiola, Alh. Murtala Abiola commended Otunba Paseda for identifying with the family at this critical period, noting that such step was in right direction as his people would forever remember his good gesture.
