Self styled Baale docked,remanded in prison

Magistrate Y.O. Aje – Atunwa (Mrs) of the Magistrate Court 1, Ikeja,Lagos State last week Friday, June 3 ordered that one Chief Maugbe Babatunde Tudonu, 44, a self styled Baale of Farasinmi community in Badagry West Local Council Development Area of Lagos State be remanded in prison custody for not able to perfect his bail condition.

He was remanded alongside with his Secretary,Revd. Samuel Boyon,40.

They are facing a 5- count charges ranging from breach of peace,stealing, possession of harmful arms,causing grievous harm to someone among others.

In the matter with charge number MIK/A/142/2016, the two accused persons were granted bail on a N250,000 each in the like sum.

They were unable to meet the bail conditions on the day and they were remanded at the Kirikiri prison.

He has been released as the bail condition has been perfected.

Our correspondent gathered that the matter is a Baaleship tussle of a peaceful and sleepy, Farasinmi community in Badagry West LCDA, Lagos State.

It was gathered that the two sides were invited to the SARS office last week Thursday where the report from the Legal section of the Police,who has been on the matter since 2014 was read to them.

It was after this that the self acclaimed Baale,Chief Maugbe and his Secretary, Revd. Samuel Boyon were detained while Chief Abubakar Awesu was asked to go and meet them in court the following day, (Friday),June 3,2016.

Documentary evidences obtained by our correspondent revealed that one Alhaji Chief Abubakar Hunkanrin Awesu, from the Ojoko ruling house is the bonafide occupant of the Baale of Farasinmi stool.

According to report,he was installed after recommendation by the community on November 14, 2011 with representation from the Lagos State government and the Badagry West LCDA during the coronation.

It was further gathered that the community Head was installed by HRM Sejoro Ogungbe James JP,Henwa of Kweme Kingdom,who according to document, is the consenting authority of Farasinmi community.

The self acclaimed Baale,Maugbe Babatunde Tudonu was said to have been installed by the Alapa of Egun Awori,Apa Kingdom,Oba Adekanmi Oyekanmi Ajose JP, on May 25,2013.

Oba Ajose,according to information is of Awori tribe and has no authority in the Farasinmi community area.

According to the recommendation of the fact finding committee set up by the local government,it was clearly stated in its report that only three families are entitled to the Baaleship stool in Farasinmi community.

They are Ojoko,from where Chief Abubakar Awesu, a retired teacher, hails from. The other two families are; Ekundo and Kikan.

In attestation to this,in a letter dated  May 19, 2014, when Chief Maugbe was planning to celebrate his first year in office,Lagos State government through the office of the Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs directed the Badagry West LCDA to stopped him from organising any celebration, added that he was not recognised as Baale,thus paved way for the crisis.

Most of the supporters of Chief Awesu were harassed,beaten and tortured aftermath and the matter was then reported at the police station in the area.

The matter was transfered to the State Police headquarters, Ikeja,Lagos.

Earlier,in a letter dated May 3,2014,the then Lagos State Commissioner for LG &CA,Ademorin Kuye signed a letter confirming the recognition of Chief Awesu as the original and recognised Baale of Farasinmi community.

Nine of the remanded self styled Baale, Chief Maugbe supporters,who are involved in the court matter but still at large include; Emmanuel Boyon,Aliu Ibrahim,Maugbe Jonas,Taiwo Tadeyon, Akojeun Peters,Sede Gbenugo.

Findings by our correspondent showed that Chief Maugbe Tudonu is having another two criminal cases at Magistrate Court, Kirikiri.

They are; MCB/75C/2012 and MCB/76C/2012. The two cases has been consolidated together in February 5,2913 with charge number MCB/77C/2013.

Historically,Farasinmi community originated from Keesi,Abeokuta and migrated to settled at their present location while the Tori family, which Chief Maugbe belongs migrated from Tori and Weme in the neighbouring Republic of Benin.

The matter has since been adjourned till September 21, 2016 for the commencement of the trial.
