Ogun lawmaker alleges victimization over birth and academic certificates Temitayo Abiodun, Abeokuta

Hon. Adebiyi Adeleye, lawmaker representing Remo North State constituency in the State House of Assembly, has described the recent move by some members of his constituency, challenges his eligibility in court as an act of victimization, which, according to him, “is part of price to pay for political recognition and elevation”.

Adeleye, a former Remo North local government council Chairman while responding to questions by “The Issues” in Abeokuta on sarturday against the recent new legal onslaught over his election in 2015 State Assembly election, said he was surprised by the new development, having been cleared by the Police Criminal Investigation Bureau, Alagbon, Lagos, early this year on similar allegations.

Two members of the constituency, Wasiu Gbadebo and Issac Onamuyiwa had filed a suit before the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, challenging authenticity of the birth and Diploma certificates presented by Adeleye to INEC before the Governorship and State Assembly elections on April 11, 2015.

Adeleye, who disclosed that he had chose to remain silent on the matter till the court gives final judgement, said, “the Bureau investigated this same allegations between January and February this year and all the parties were invited to be briefed on the outcome. The records are there. Even, the institution authority, Federal College of Freshwater Fisheries Technology, New Bussa, Niger State also sent some officials to the CIB, Lagos with adequate documents to confirm my attendance in the school, yet they are not satisfied. No single area was picked against me and they were appropriately counseled.

“But, I am surprised by their recent court move again. It was pure victimization by people who are seeing you growing politically, because of one’s honesty, integrity and ability to move and mobilise the people.”

Shedding more lights on the matter, Adeleye said he was curious that a document not certified or non-certificated register would be used by anybody against him.

According to him, “because, the December 17, 1974 they are using against me might be erroneously recorded during registration in my first school before moving to Ode Remo High School. I never got any official document for attending the old school.

“At Ode-Remo, I was given the school leaving certificate and testimonial with my picture attached. This was in 1993, when I never even dreamt of going into politics.

“This date, July 16, 1974 has been on all my personal documents, including my International Passport, academic profile among others. My age was not even in contention, because if I am born in 1974 I would have been 41 as at 2015 for the election. The minimum age for the House of Assembly election is 25 years, so what is their argument all about, they are just being mischievous.

“On my academic qualification, their ignorance was that there was a pre-ND programme which I attended before qualifying for my ND programme in 1996. Imagine them now using 2015/2016 admission prospectus to challenge admission process of 1996.

“In fact, recently, the school honoured me and about five other alumni. And to shock you, it was the CIB investigation that brought the knowledge of the school of my existence and present political status and I was contacted and honoured among the nominated old students, during their last convocation on May 14th, 2016.

“If not that you had come to find out what is actually happening,I have decided not to join in the newspaper war with them, but to meet them at the court to settle this matter once and for all,” Adeleye, who provided all the necessary documents to newsmen to buttress his case stated.

The case is expected to come up for hearing on June 6 at the Federal High Court, Oke Mosan,Abeokuta.

He advised the men,who according to him are working for a former Councillor, identified as Solomon Oluwaseyi Osho, who left the party when he could not got the Assembly ticket and contested against me under the platform of Social Democratic Party, SDP.

He warned them to be cautious of nemesis that will caught up with all hypocrites like them in future.
