Gunmen abduct ex Ogun speaker’s wife, daughter

Kidnappers struck again in Ijebu Ode on Thursday night as they abducted Mrs Nofisat Bola Oshin, wife of the former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly,Tokunbo Oshin and one her daughter, Afolabi,15.

Mrs Oshin,a veteran broadcaster, is the Director of Information in Odogbolu local government area of Ogun State.

They were abducted around 8pm while driving along Akobi street, Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State when the suspected kidnappers accosted them at gunpoint.

Oshin, a member of The Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ),Ogun State Council was informed to be taken away in her car, which was later abandoned at Okun Owa,near Odogbolu.

According to a statement released on Friday and signed by the Acting Chairman of the Ogun NUJ, Mr. Soji Amosun, he said, the whereabouts of the Director, who is a member of the NUJ and her daughter, remain unknown at the time of filing this report.

“The Director of Information in Odogbolu Local Government, Mrs. Nofisat Bola Oshin and her 15 year old daughter, Miss Afolabi were yesterday (Thursday) night kidnapped by unknown gunmen along Akobi Street in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

“Mrs. Oshin who is a member of the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists was allegedly kidnapped around8pm.

“Their whereabouts is unknown since yesterday while her car has been abandoned at Okun-Owa in Odogbolu local government of the state”, the statement reads in part.

The NUJ, which described the abduction as barbaric act, enjoined security agencies and the state government to do all to arrest the kidnappers and ensure the release of the Director and her daughter safely.

The union, however, said that it had reported the matter to the police while the family members, too, have been notified.

It would be recalled that the former Minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo was kidnapped last month in Igbogila area in Yewa South local government area of the state on her way from her farm by suspected kidnappers.

She was later freed after six days in the hands of her abductors,few days after the Police had announced a ransom of N5 million on anyone who could provide information that would lead to her release.
